A Florida-based corporation, in which Dr. Norman Shealy of Springfield says he is "a major stockholder," plans to open in September the first of several hundred pain clinic across the country.
He said the company is looking at Washington, D.C., Las Vegas or Tampa, Fla., as the site for the first clinic.
Training of the staff for the first clinic will be the week after Labor Day at the Shealy Institute, 1328 E. Evergreen.
"The plan is to open three clinics a month for the rest of this year, then five clinics a month next year," Shealy said.
Each clinic will be staffed with a physician, a nurse, a medical assistant and two administrative people, he said. All of the clinics will be company-owned. The initial goal is to have 200 clinics in 39 states, with 400 clinics being the ultimate goal of the company.
Each clinic will follow specific protocols developed by Shealy for the treatment of back pain, headaches and carpel tunnel syndrome.
"My title in the corporation is director of medical research, and I will spend my time keeping the protocols clean and training personnel for the clinics," he said.
The name of the parent corporation is Cluster Technology Inc., and its headquarters is in Heathrow, Fla., near Orlando.
The president of the corporation is John Frankum, an entrepreneur Shealy said he has known for several years.
