As most in the cosmetics, fragrance and personal care products industry already know, the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CCTFA) acts as the principal voice of the industry by maintaining a constant dialogue with government regulators to ensure the development of effective representation of its positions on all regulatory matters.
CCTFA president Charles Low says: "One of our primary goals is to establish and maintain an optimum business environment that promotes Canadian industry global competitiveness through freedom from unnecessary regulation."
Over the years of its existence, the CCTFA has achieved many-successes in its ongoing mission; and Carl Carter, CCTFA's director, regulatory affairs, reports that 2001 was a very good year.
"Due to CCTFA efforts, Health Canada agreed to recognize the concept of 'net impression' and accepted the use of the term 'anti-aging' for cosmetics products, if clearly qualified in a cosmetic sense," he says. "This result clearly demonstrates how an industry association can achieve a successful outcome, whereas it would have been impossible for an individual manufacturer."

CCTFA also played a key role in co-ordinating the efforts of all sectors regulated under the Food and Drugs Act (FDA) to ensure a unified approach to the problematic issue of environmental assessments under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA99).
