Klett makes it look very easy to publish high-quality language textbooks. Deutsch echt einfach presents yet another excellent language learning solution for students and teachers of German. Its main author, Giorgio Motta, best known for his 2013 textbook success Magnet (also available through Klett), has dedicated his career to teaching German to young learners. Previous publications by Motta include, among others, Wir Plus Grundkurs Deutsch, Hallo Deutsch, and Wir zwei.
The title of the textbook series reviewed here provides a first clue: Learning German should appear as an effortless undertaking to the young learner. The learner should open the textbook and think: "I can do this!" Deutsch echt einfach is a compact language learning solution based on the communicative approach. It targets learners age 14 and up, who want to learn German as a second language from scratch, wherever they live. Everyday topics such as school, family, hobbies, friends, holidays, plans for the future as well as glimpses into the life of peers in the German-speaking world reappear throughout the book. The characters in the dialogues and texts are mostly teenagers, allowing the learners to not only identify more easily with them but also to make learning the language more interesting and appealing.
The textbook series consists of a total of three volumes (A1, A2, and B1) with each volume containing a Kursbuch, Übungsbuch, Medienpaket, Testheft, Lehrerhandbuch, and Lehrwerk digital. The various materials range in price from €9,99 - €16,99.
