Mr. A. C. Ellis, the Y. M. C. A. secretary, writes as follows:
"There is probably no finer body of men in the service than the American Legation Guard of Peking.
"The U. S. Guard makes the best appearance on parade and, as individuals, on the streets. Their uniforms-handsome "blues" and khaki-are smarter and cleaner than those of any others. Twenty-five per cent of the Guard are studying some trade or profession with local teachers or with the M. C. I. Fully a quarter of their number are sending half of their monthly pay to savings banks in the U. S. A. All the skilled work of the Post is done by members of the Marine Corps.
