Abstract
Implementation of computer decision support systems (CDS) has made it possible to inform initial treatment selection and dose, identify and flag inappropriate therapy, and send crucial alerts on the basis of updates in laboratory and microbiological results, but these systems do not use PK-PD data to provide drug selection and dose regimen decision support.[...]the program utilises population pharmacokinetic models that result in distributions of likely drug exposures for individual patients which can then be indexed to minimum inhibitory concentrations based on local susceptibility data and ultimately provides estimations of the likelihood of achieving drug concentrations associated with efficacy.Individualised treatment regimens based on PK-PD principles, in addition to the ability to record stewardship interventions and patient outcomes, is what sets the PK-PD Compass apart from all other antibiotic applications or resources, such as the Sanford guide, Global RPh, and Epocrates, as well as several marketed commercial CDS platforms.
