Abstract
According to the Indonesian government, more than 100 000 people lost their lives in the inexorable wall of water that swept through the city on Dec 26, 2004. [...]of generous financial and in-kind contributions from public and private donors around the world, UN agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and other relief, organisations are now starting longer term rehabilitation. According to Sorensen, in Banda Aceh alone some 100 000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets, 20 000 rapid diagnostic tests for malaria, and 150 000 treatment courses of artemisinin-based combination therapy—the most effective available antimalarial treatment—have been made available by private donors and UN agencies.
