Abstract
In recent years, employers have absorbed the brunt of cost increases while trends were high, thus shielding employees from a portion of the true cost increases. That cycle is reversing somewhat. Based on current preferred provider organization (PPO) plan designs, [we estimate] that of the $14,500 total medical costs for 2007, the family will pay $2,420 out-of-pocket through member cost sharing at time of service.
