Waiting for a Train: Jimmie Rodgers' America. Conference at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, September 20, 1997. Cosponsored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
The American Music Masters series of conferences, inaugurated in 1996, demonstrates conclusively that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has already become an essential cultural institution. Each year this conference, cosponsored by the Hall of Fame and Case Western Reserve University, examines a different foundational figure in the history (or prehistory) of rock and roll. In 1996, Woody Guthrie was the focus. Future conferences will cover such seminal artists as Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Robert Johnson, Lead Belly, Bessie Smith, Muddy Waters, and Hank Williams.
