Short-range wireless effort gains momentum as IEEE group hammers out details
Manhasset, N.Y. - The Zigbee Alliance's efforts to establish a low-power wireless interoperability specification got a boost last week when AMI Semiconductor Inc. announced the availability of Zigbee silicon. The Pocatello, Idaho, company's ASTRX1 complies with the IEEE 802.15.4 draft standard on which Zigbee will be based. Also last week, Millennial Net Inc. (Cambridge, Mass.), a member of the Zigbee Alliance, emerged from stealth mode to announce the receipt of $6 million in Series A funding to support the development and marketing of its miniature, lowpower wireless-sensor networking devices.
The news came as the Zigbee Alliance prepares for its first "open house" in Europe at the Estrel Convention Center in Berlin on June 3, where it will provide a progress report on the emerging Zigbee specification, the alliance's...
