Coaxsys leverages existing cabling to reach rates in the hundreds of Mbits/s
San Jose, Calif. - Coaxsys Inc. is bypassing the CableLabs CableHome program to offer its own home-networking infrastructure based on an unused frequency band in standard home TV cabling. The system will preserve compatibility with Ethernet framing but will use a proprietary modulation method to achieve speeds in the hundreds of megabits per second at up to 300 feet, Coaxsys said.
The system supports multiple streams of video in the home and can be upgraded to Gigabit Ethernet backbones, so Coaxsys' initial target market will be consumers of graphics-intensive multiuser games. Video servers, music servers and...
