SANTA CLARA, CALIF. - Eight-month-old Quantum3D Inc. has all the disarray of a startup. Caught in the crush of three year-end trade shows, employees scrambled around their mostly furnished offices, cobbling together demo equipment and peripherals.
All that work is geared toward establishing the company in the PC-graphicsboard business. A spin-off of chip maker 3Dfx Interactive Inc., Quantum3D has been searching for new niche markets for its parent's high-power graphics accelerators. It's an unusual business model that so far seems to be working.
