Abstract

The first time Maisonette moved, it did not make the local news. But since owner Nat Comisar announced last month that the renowned restaurant would close its downtown Cincinnati location next fall when a new building in suburban Kenwood OH is expected to be ready, their phone has been ringing off the hook. The restaurant had a good year in 2000, but changing demographics combined with post-9/11 business pullbacks and a major airline's decision to drop Cincinnati service brought red ink the past several years. The new Maisonette will be built in Sycamore Township, northeast of the city center, close by the Kenwood Towne Center shopping complex. The Kenwood location will not be a mid-scale bistro, but the chandeliers and wait staff's tuxedos will be left behind. The new location's biggest advantage will be space. The Kenwood location's secondary operation will be baby got blues, a 180-seat brasserie with a stage for live music.
