As the first quarter was drawing to a close, Credit Suisse First Boston was leading the bookrunner ranking for global commercial MBS. First Boston had $2.4 billion of volume, followed by Noran Stanley ($1.9 billion) and Lehman Brothers ($1.7 billion), according to preliminary data. Global CMBS issuance was down by 28% year to date, to $12.9 billion from $18 billion a year ago. The first-quarter league tables will be published next week.
Former Bear Stearns executive Barry Schu. acher has joined CBA Mezzanine Capital Finance, a start-up firm run by Marty Lanigan. Schumacher, a senior vice president, will oversee development of the firm's portfolio-management system and help structure transactions. CBA, which is based in Chatham, N.J., will originate mezzanine loans for borrowers that have arranged conduit mortgages. The firm is expected to begin funding loans...
