Computed Tomography: Fundamentals, System Technology, Image Quality, Applications, 2nd Edition Author: Willi A.Kalender, PhD Publisher: Publicis Corporate Publishing, Erlangen ISBN: 3-89578-216-5 Publication date: 2005 Pages: 306 Price: $65
With the advent of magnetic resonance imaging, many thought that computed tomography (CT) would be replaced. However, over the past 10 years, CT use and applications have grown. Today every hospital has a CT unit for applications ranging from serious trauma cases to routine kidney stone identification. The advent of spiral imaging in the early 1990s made volumetric imaging possible. More recent technological advances-multi-slice detectors and cone beam projection with resulting reconstruction changes-have significantly increased the use of CT A major advance has been the use of 64-slice scanners for coronary artery calcification studies.
As a researcher and educator, Willi Kalender has made significant contributions to the area of CT, including being the developer of spiral CT.
