MASSACHUSETTS JOINS VT, NY & CT: Creates Commission on Status of Women
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy created the federal Commission on the Status of Women, chaired by Eleanor Roosevelt. The Commission's 1963 report, American Women, recommended each state form a similar commission.
Last November, Massachusetts joined the ranks of thirty-nine other states with Women's Commissions.
