Andre Ntonfo is a specialist of francophone Caribbean literature, known for L'homme et l'identite dans le roman des Antilles et Guyane Franraise and his book on the anthropology and sociology of soccer in Cameroon, where he teaches. He has made a significant contribution to the study of the Haitian novel with Le roman indigeniste haitien.
Ntonfo enlarges the concept of "indigenism" by tracing its development through all of Haitian history. He sees indigenism as a quest for original sources and the discovery and affirmation of the African heritage.
