Experimental fiction, a literary trend which has prevailed since the late 1980s in China, is the subject of Lu Tonglin's monograph. The six authors studied here are Lu Xun, Mo Yan, Zhaxi Dawa, Su Tong, Yu Hua, and Can Xue, the only female writer of the group. All are contemporary, with the exception of Lu Xun (1881-1936), who is considered important because of his influence on later writers.
