After an informative fifty-page introduction, the bulk of Jon Kowallis's important, interesting, and useful book consists of translations and annotations of Lu Xun's sixty-four classical poems in forty-nine short chapters. Each chapter begins with an introduction to the poem or thematically linked group of poems covered; this is followed by the Chinese original in large-print characters with Pinyin romanization and single-word translations under each character; then comes Kowallis's English translation, followed, finally, by notes both to the introductions and to individual lines.
