Abel Posse's novel is an account of Evita Peron's last year of life as culled from documentary sources. Posse, not surprisingly although rather disappointingly, provides an essentially dithyrambic portrait of Evita, one that does little to go either to the core of her subjectivity or to place her in any nonsuperficial way within sociohistorical coordinates. La pasion segun Eva is interesting, but no significant new insights are provided beyond those of Posse's cited documentary sources. Although there are sections that would seem to cast Evita in a harsh light, in reality they only enhance the fundamentally soap-opera quality of the narrative.
