Midwest Wireless Communications came in the back door, so to speak, in signing a 20-year title sponsorship package worth an estimated $6 million with the Mankato (Minn.) Civic Center, operated by Compass Management.
Building officials were attempting to sell the company a luxury suite when Midwest Wireless inquired about "putting its name" somewhere in the arena, said General Manager Tim Berry.
"Five months later, we finalized the naming rights," said Berry, formerly marketing director. Midwest Wireless is based in Mankato and owned by a group of southern Minnesota telephone companies.
Midwest Wireless was established in 1990 and currently has 160 employees.
