Sea Odyssey, the new simulator dark ride designers are calling the "most advanced underwater adventure ever created," will debut at Universal Studios Port Aventura, Salou, Spain, in mid-May.
Part thrill ride, part undersea exploratorium, the new highly themed attraction was created by the same Universal Studios team that created such high-tech attractions as Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Terminator 2 3-D, all found in the two U.S. Universal Studios theme parks.
Under construction since July 1999, the project was conceived nearly 17 months ago when Universal set out to bring Port Aventura up to the standards of a world class theme park.
"As we looked at the product mix, it was obvious we needed a simulator dark ride," said Craig Hanna, director of attraction de- velopment for Universal Studios.
"Sea Odyssey will dramatically simulate the experience of submarine exploration, creating a sense of danger and wonder," he told AB.
The storyline is that guests are visiting the highly classified oceanographic research facility, known as the Institut Oceanique.
