The 48-year-old Bell's Amusement Park, on the fairgrounds of the Tulsa (Okla.) State Fair, has plans to enter its 50th season in 2000 as the Bell's Boomtown theme park.
"We want to double our in-park acreage to 20, build a new wooden coaster, spread our existing attractions out, and create a Tulsa 1920s oil town theme to the entire park," said Robby Bell, president.
The key to the expansion will be a $2 million Custom Coasters International wooden coaster, currently being called Rolling Thunder. "That's the name we'll probably start off with, but we may switch to an oil-themed name once all the theming has started." The layout of the coaster has not been determined, but Bell told AB it will "probably be in the 100-foot-tall" range.
