Just a few weeks ago, an AMR Research analyst expressed his doubts about the ultimate viability of Covisint, the e-marketplace being formed by General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co., DaimlerChrysler and other automotive original equipment manufacturers.
"The wheels are going to fall off before it gets going," predicted Kevin Prouty, who speculated that automotive suppliers might be in a better position to create an online exchange. But with the recent addition of Delphi Automotive Systems, he was less pessimistic, acknowledging that bringing on board the largest automotive supplier in the world was a coup for Covisint.
Since its announcement on Feb. 25, the short life of Covisint has been like that, full of whipsaw ups and downs....
