Cedar Point amusement park will open the six-acre Camp Snoopy family play area next spring. The multimillion dollar highly themed area will house Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Sally and Schroeder and will have eight rides, including a family roller coaster.
"Having the rights to use the characters gave us the opportunity to address a need we have had for family rides and attractions," said Don Miears, general manager. "We now have a few rides where parents can ride with their children, but we felt we needed more."
This is the first major synergistic result coming from the January 1998 purchase of Knott's Berry Farm by Cedar Fair, Cedar Point's parent company. Knott's had the right to exclusively use the Peanuts characters in theme parks. Negotiations with United Media Licensing to extend the use of the characters in parks other than Knott's Berry Farm began shortly after the purchase of the park.
