Abstract

Some experts are predicting that the year 2000 problem will affect the stock market, causing companies whose own computers are fixed to fail because other companies on which they relay are unable to operate. Unfortunately, investors have no way of knowing which companies are in danger. The Justice Department is allowing securities firms to share information how to solve the year 2000 problem. The 800 members of the Securities Industry Association plan to perform an industry-wide test during the spring of 1999 to see whether the problems have been overcome.
