Pascal's Manale, a New Orleans landmark restaurant famous for barbecued shrimp, will be fumigated with chlorine dioxide gas Tuesday by Sabre Technical Services. The method to be used was successfully employed following the 2001 anthrax attacks at the Hart Senate Office Building, the Curseen Morris Postal Facility in Washington ,D.C., the Hamilton Postal Facility in New Jersey and the AMI Building in Boca Raton, Fla. It is now being used in New Orleans to combat the heavy mold and other biological contaminants resulting from the flooding following Hurricane Katrina. The fumigation will give us finality so that we can move on and accelerate the reopening of our restaurant, said Bob Felice, owner of Pascal's Manale at 1838 Napoleon Ave. The fumigation is set to start at 9 a.m. and be done by that evening. Sabre's method of mold treatment is the only EPA- registered product that uses a fumigant to decontaminate an entire structure, said John Mason, president and CEO of Sabre Technical Solutions, a part of Bio-ONE Solutions LLC, which is an affiliate of Giuliani Partners LLC. He said a structure fumigated with chlorine dioxide does not have to be stripped and gutted as in traditional mold remediation. Because the gas penetrates interior wall spaces and is effective on hard, porous and non-porous surfaces, it is not necessary to remove mold-affected areas of a structure. Chlorine dioxide, a microbiocide, has been used for disinfection and sterilization in the food and drinking water industries for more than 70 years. It does not form toxic byproducts, is environmentally friendly and leaves no residual toxicity. For more information, visit www.sabretechservices.com <http:// www.sabretechservices.com/> .
