There's a line in the 1992 movie "A Few Good Men" that seems apropos in the wake of the reassignment of Jim Bernazzani, who ran the FBI's operations in New Orleans until he made known his interest in running for mayor of the city.
"All you did was weaken a country today," Col. Nathan Jessep, portrayed by Jack Nicholson, tells prosecutors after admitting he condoned the fatal hazing of young Marine.
