Currency converters available on the web range from simple cross-rate tables, through complex converters to packages to download onto your desktop. Almost all let you type in the amount to convert rather than just giving the exchange rate.
There are several things to consider when choosing a site. First, how important is up-to-date information? Second, which currencies do you most frequently convert between? All sites give major world currencies, but if you want the Vanuatu vatu, or the Costa Rica colon, then you might need something more sophisticated. But it is nice not to have to wade through 100-plus currencies to get to the Samoan tala and the Guatemalan quetzal.
Third, what information do you want along with the conversion? Historical rates can be useful, and actually showing the conversion rate is important - not all sites do this. But one of the most useful features is showing the conversion in both directions in case...
