This is the second in a new series in which AAM institutional members are spotlighted for their use of AAM services.
Timothy Chester, director of the 145-yearold Public Museum of Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids, Mich., has AAM's Government and Public Affairs Department programmed on his speed dial. He relies on AAM to inform him about federal opportunities and initiatives that can help his museum fulfill its mission to collect, preserve, and present the natural, cultural, and social history of western Michigan.
During one of his frequent calls to AAM, Chester garnered details on U.S. Department of Education (DOE) grants that provide public schools with funding to establish "21 st-century community learning centers." Grant funds are earmarked for school districts, yet, Chester was delighted to learn, museums are eligible to apply as partners with local schools.
