Mexico's Aerocalifornia, whose aircraft were grounded by the Mexican authorities on 2 April, has defended its operations and asked for permission to resume operations. The government said that it suspended the operations of the airline after a two-week review revealed that the carrier had used parts from decommissioned aircraft. According to The Associated Press, the carrier has been given 90 days to meet safety standards unless it wants to lose its licence. Airline president Raul Arechiga said in a full-page advertisement in the Mexico City newspaper El Universal that he would provide documents to show that the carrier had met safety standards before the suspension.
