Global communications infrastructure companies PortaOne, Inc. and World Telecom Labs (WTL) have announced their respective flagship technologies have been deployed at Xplorium, an international VoIP carrier operating in Europe, the United States, the Middle East, South America and Africa. Using the two vendors' tightly integrated platforms, Xplorium is able to easily connect SS7 and VoIP networks, establish new points of presence, compress network traffic while maintaining call quality, and achieve complex billing scenarios, among other benefits.
Xplorium's billing and switching infrastructure achieves Next-Generation Network (NGN) status via the deployment of WTL's SoIP product and PortaOne's PortaSwitch telecom service management platform. SoIP (SS7 over IP) is a compact, high performance and cost effective SS7 to IP gateway providing signaling and media gateway capabilities in a single box. Ideal for ISPs, pure-play VoIP operators or for adding VoIP connectivity to legacy switches, SoIP also employs WTL's Network Optimization Protocol (NOP)--a VoIP compression technique that delivers up to 16:1 compression to increase traffic capacity without sacrificing voice quality.
