Abstract

President Emmerson Mnangagwa vowed to help the Harare City Council with financial assistance toward fighting the epidemic, saying the funds being raised daily would help fix the burst pipes at Morton Jeffery Waterworks—the potable water supplier to the capital, the Central Business District, and the suburbs. “The distribution of clean and safe water for household use in the affected parts of Harare through the municipality water supply systems remains sporadic”, Anderson Chimusoro, WHO-Zimbabwe disease prevention and control officer, told The Lancet. The Harare City Council rushed to repair sewage leakages that occurred in the affected areas and promised to respond urgently to any reported leaks, but the infrastucture needs to be upgraded, Chimusoro said.
