The Deal: Autodesk Inc. has agreed to acquire Discreet Logic Inc., a maker of systems and software used to create special effects for movies and TV. Terms of the $520 million stock deal call for Autodesk to issue 0.525 share for each Discreet Logic share outstanding. The deal will serve to combine Discreet's content-creation tools with those of Autodesk's Kinetix division, best known for the 3D Studio product line. There will likely be a minor amount of layoffs, however, there is very little overlap between the tow companies. On the news, Autodesk rose 131 to close at $32.63/ share, while shares of Discreet Logic rose $2.38, or 17.5%, to close at $16.00/share.
