When the United Mechanical Workshop Mayer & Cie. was created on July 8, 1905 in Tailfingen in Southern Germany, the founding fathers - among them the grandfather of today's Managing Partner Rainer Mayer - had great plans for the firm. But despite their ambitions, none of them could have envisaged that this fledgling company would one day become the world's leading manufacturer of circular knitting machines.
Mayer & Cie currently employs a workforce of 1600. Alongside knitting machines, the company has also diversified into sectors such as automotive components, special machines, punched components and metrology.
