WIXOM -- The territory west of the I-275/I-96 interchange is booming with construction. And Holton Erectors is right in the thick of the activity.
The construction company moves from seventh place in the Michigan Private 100 last year to fourth place for 1987. It is one of only two companies repeating in the top 10; and is the only listing to improve upon a single-digit ranking.
President and founder Jess Holton feels the company is a strong prospect for the number one spot next year.
Holton Erectors has already matched its 1986 sales of $4.1 million during the first quarter of this year. Total revenues for 1987 will be approximately $10 million. But the feat won't be anything new for the company. Sales have more than doubled annually since 1982 revenues of $162,000.
Holton was introduced to the construction business 12 years ago when he took a job as an iron worker. In 1980, he and three others began beating the pavement to find small subcontracts for steel erection.
