Big news at the Tokyo Game Show in early September was Microsoft's announcement that it would launch an online game service for Xbox in Japan on January 16, 2003. Xbox Live, the company's online game service for the U.S. market, is expected to debut on November 15, coinciding with the first anniversary of Xbox. The online services requires users to connect the game console to the Internet and wear a headphone to facilitate chats with other participants while playing games. Users will have to purchase a special kit, priced at 6,800 yen, for online access and the necessary equipment. The kit will also include two game titles. When service commences next year, four more titles will be available. The company displayed two online games - True Fantasy Live Online and Fishing Live Online - at the game show.
