Kurt Manley has always wanted to build things.
While in college studying business management at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Manley took a part-time job building homes. He even subscribed to Builder magazine.
After graduating in 1985, he moved to the Twin Cities and started building homes.
First, Manley built a home for himself in Eagan. It led to another that was built without a buyer, on spec. It sold, and led to two more.
He recruited his older brother, Kevin Manley, to join him a few years later. They incorporated Manley Bros. Construction in 1996 and Manley Land Development Inc. in 2000. The businesses have about 60 employees combined.
Kurt, 42, is president of the development arm, while Kevin oversees the construction company. The titles are just a formality for the brothers, who grew up one year apart...
