V.G. Reed & Sons has moved its printing operation to a new facility at 1002 S. 12th St. in Louisville.
"This move was made because V.G. Reed was landlocked at the old location, and with an annual growth rate of 15 to 20 percent, productivity had begun to suffer," said Dennis H. Reed Sr., president. "The new facility, with 144,000 square feet, is over three times the size of the previous building, plus we can literally double the size of this new plant as volume increases necessitate expansion." V.G. Reed & Sons currently has over 185 employees and has hired a great many of them from the surrounding community.
Reed expects the company to grow to over 400 jobs by the year 2000. "Based on recent history, and the volume expected in the book manufacturing division, I am confident of our growth projections. In fact, they may be on the conservative side."
The new plant allows print jobs to flow sequentially through departments, streamlining production and saving time. The new facility features a Variquik variable cutoff web press that features minimal make-readies and nearly zero downtime.
