The busy local market for automotive-related construction projects just got busier.
General Motors Corp. is planning a $16 million renovation this year of a key engineering building at its Warren technical complex.
The automaker will convert the so-called north engineering building in the tech center from shop space to high-tech engineering offices, said Mark Fitzpatrick, vice president of the St. Clair Shores-based John M. Olson Co.
Olson is one of several local construction contractors asked this month to bid on the refurbishment of the 180,000-square-foot building.
Perini Building Co.-Central U.S. Division in Southfield is putting a bid together for submission to GM this week, said Robert Washer, Perini vice president of business development.
