Acting the Song: Performance Skills for the Musical Theatre Second Edition is a "go to" resource in music theater education. The detailed chapter organization and plethora of extras (Student Companion Ebook, suggested reading lists, exercises, "quick notes," worksheets, diagrams, musical examples, etc.) create opportunities for teachers and students to go beyond the text. The book delightfully covers how to obtain a fool-proof teaching process in the genre of music theater. Moore maintains a positive tone throughout, encouraging a natural approach in music theater pedagogy. This book is not only a great resource for music theater education if you don't already have one, but it can also help freshen up your process or routine if you feel as if your teaching is in a rut.
At first glance, I was a bit confused as to how the text and resources were structured. This resource can be utilized by both teachers and students, so how does the Student Companion Ebook fit in? In email correspondence, the author explained that many students do, in fact, also use the book. The original intent of the physical book is for those who teach-voice teachers, coaches, pianists, clinicians, etc. The book can be used in a class such as "Music Theater Workshop," for directing a musical, or for an instructor who wants to strengthen coaching skills...
