IN A MOVE TO EXPLODE" THE electronic data interchange (EDI market, GE Information Services (GEIS), Inc., has launched GE InterBusiness. Companies with hooks to the Internet can now use their existing Internet technology to access the GEIS value added network (VAN) on the Web, eliminating the connectivity expense associated with EDI. "Small businesses are Internet-centric," says Rockville, MDbased GEIS's Haskell Mayo, vp of marketing. "GE InterBusiness allows you to piggy-back on your Internet [investments]." If successful, the more than 300 financial institutions involved in electronic funds transfer (EFf with GEIS worldwide would receive an explosion in settlement fees.
