Bank United, Houston, has laid claim to rolling out the nation's first ATMs with iris recognition technology.
In May, the $14.9 billion bank put biometric ATMs in three branches at Kroger supermarkets in Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. After a successful pilot, the bank plans to add the technology to its 62 seven-day banking centers early next year.
Bank United used existing Diebold ATMs retrofitted with iris identification products supplied by Sensar, Moorestown, N.J., which licenses the iris ID process developed by IriScan, Marlton, NJ.
