“I believe in killing off your opponents when you can get good results by doing so”. Thus said George Orwell, in his essay Politics of the English Language in 1946 (Orwell, 1984, p. 362). It might stand as the motto for this book [which is prefaced by a quotation from Eric Ambler’s The Mask of Dimitrios (1939)].
With the recent (March 2018) attempted poisoning incident, in Salisbury, of the Russian ex-spy, Col Sergei Skipal, with Novichok, that resulted in the death of a British civilian, this work could not be more timely. As the author states in the introduction, “(T)he objective of this volume is to identify and document assassination as it occurred during this and the present century” (p. 4).
