Court order helps studios, nets' claim that ad-skipping infringes on copyrights

Networks and studios, deeply suspicious of the ReplayTV 4000, a digital video recorder that lets television viewers skip through commercials, have obtained a court order to find out how consumers use the new technology.
The development marks the latest stage in the battle over emerging digital technologies that allow ad-skipping, as well as quick and accurate copying of shows or movies. This round involves NBC, ABC, CBS, UPN and studios including: Disney, Paramount, MGM, Universal and Columbia. All have joined in a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. Their...
