Australian novelist
Born Jessie Catherine Huybers in London, England, she travelled with her family to Tasmania, Australia, around 1852 and spent her childhood in and around Hobart. She published most of her work under the name Tasma. Her father was a prosperous merchant who moved in the upper social circles of the colony. In June 1865 she married Charles Forbes Fraser and moved with him to Victoria. The marriage lasted only six years, at least two of which she spent in Europe travelling with her mother and siblings.
