The following 12 SPE Senior Members were recently elected to the status of Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers in recognition of outstanding longterm contributions to the industry. A ceremony honoring them was held at the Society's 56th Annual Technical Conference Awards Luncheon in Atlanta. Since the award's inception in 1984, only 148 of the current 35,000 SPE membership have been so honored.
* Joseph J. Duska received this recognition for inventions and commercialization of a dual-diameter extruder, intensive melt mixing device, liquid crystal polymer formulations, high-temperature polymer blends, and R&D project leadership. A member of the Society since 1970, Mr. Duska is affiliated with the Central Florida Section and the Extrusion Division of SPE. He received a BSChE from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and did his MBA studies at the University of Georgia and Bryant College. Mr. Duska is currently director, R&D, Tupperware Corp., Orlando, Florida. Dr Eldridge M. Mount III and John Wagner, Jr., of the Extrusion Division were his sponsors.
Dr. Melvin I. Kohan is recognized for fundamental studies and knowledge of polyamides, editing two major reference books on nylon plastics and stabilization of polyoxymethylenes. A member of the Society since 1961, Dr. Kohan is a member of the Philadelphia Section and the Engineering Properties & Structure Division of SPE. A graduate of Harvard University (AB in chemistry) and the University of Illinois (PhD), Dr Kohan is consultant, MIK Associates, Wilmington, Delaware. Dr. Roger D. Corneliussen and Lewis B. Weisfeld of the Philadelphia Section were his sponsors.
Leonard G. Krauskopf received this tribute for sustained contributions in the area of plasticizers for PVC formulation, flexible vinyl applications, asbestos-free vinyl floor tiles, and the development of a computer-aided vinyl formulation guide.
