Abstract
One year into its $11 billion transformation project headed by executive director of network services Mike Lawrey, Telstra is on time and under budget and has delivered a nationwide wireless network, which is called Telstra's Next G Network, ahead of schedule. CEO Sol Trujillo said the company will transform in four ways: strategically, operationally, culturally and financially. All the while, he insisted that the overall focus be on the customer experience. For new systems, the company looks to one of the hallmarks of this transformation project: the reliance -- and more important, the insistence -- on commercial off-the-shelf software. The difference with Telstra's transformation plan is that the company will not let the users of the systems request a lot of custom capabilities. Some of the things Telstra hopes to achieve in the coming year are to continue with its wireless upgrades and to turn up its IP/MPLS core and multi-service edge networks.
