SS7, IP integration hurdles remain

Abstract

Nortel Networks has developed a carrier-class SS7/Internet protocol signaling gateway for voice over IP. The gateway is based on IPS7, a protocol initiative Nortel created by integrating more than 15 protocols. The IPS7 architecture enables bidirectional signaling while insulating the IP and SS7 networks. A protocol should be standardized by the end of 1999.
