Abstract

Taking optical-based services to business customers via passive optical networking has morphed into a service offering with potential. Several companies are developing PON solutions that will allow service providers to fan out dynamic bandwidth to their small and medium-sized business customers. PON technology allows one access line to be shared by 32 customers using inexpensive optical splitters that do not require electricity.
