This was a year of transition for CPASoftware, as it said good-bye to DOS and launched its 32-bit Windows Visual 1040.
User reception to the Visual 1040 was "great," according to Shirley Harris, who manages the CPAS tax line. Users embraced the automatic calculation, "which makes it very easy to instantly see the ramification of a particular entry on the return," she says. Also popular was the ability to quickly see worksheets onscreen without having to print a report.
New features include the ability to modify all set-up items on-the-fly, as well as being able to customize what is included in the file copy, client copy, and government copy of each return.
Such flexibility helped to take the sting out of dropping DOS. "We supported our DOS product much longer than most of our competitors, and our users were very appreciative of having the extra time before having to make the change [to Windows]," notes Harris.
